Experience

I tutored my freshmen year at a place called "El Centro" in the town of Gettysburg to elementary students of Spanish background. Last semester I was studying abroad in Santiago, Chile and am still very much interested in the Spanish language and culture. I think both myself and the students could be enriched by working together as I can practice my Spanish and them English. I have studied the region of Latin America extensively while also taking a few english and history courses at Gettysburg College as well as AP American History and AP Psychology in high school. I took the SATs and my combined score was 1570 and my American History subject test score was 690. Relevant classes I have taken to Spanish at Gettysburg College are Span 202, Span 301, Span 345, Span 309 and abroad I was enrolled in an intensive language program for three and a half hours five days a week.

I'm from Cape Cod, Massachusetts and really enjoy the summer and spending time at the beach, swimming, bonfires, kayaking, and really anything associated with the ocean. I grew up there and feel aspects of it engrained in me. Yet, you probably wonder why I chose Gettysburg College because it is about 10 hours from hours from home. The college's original lure was the battlefields and I have always had an interest in American history especially the Civil War. I try to visit as frequently as possible and every time my family comes to visit we have to spend a day of the weekend exploring the battlefield. During the summer months, I waitress and feel that such a job has made me task oriented and extremely quick to focus the things I need to accomplish. After studying in Santiago for 4 months I feel as though I have matured immensely and can finally grasp ideals of the world outside of the bubbles of both Gettysburg and Cape Cod. I want to connect with my tutees and would really enjoy helping them with their classes and struggles.
